It's got one halfway decent gank setup and thats a quad plate 900 DPS effort, which makes it a slightly tougher slightly less damaging close range slugger than a Megathron for example.
That really is about it.
All these 1300 DPS comedy fits are just that, COMEDY fits. A 60K EHP BS is a total fail fit, especially when you consider that there are several BS that can easily do 1100DPS with 120K EHP or more. If you honestly think that an extra 200DPS for the sacrifice of 60K EHP and all your EWAR or tackle kit is a good trade-off you need your head fixed.
And it's true, the ship does only have one bonus, which actually makes it LESS skill intensive.
Training a rank 8 to LVL V just to get ONE 5% RoF bonus is a serious waste of time.
All this **** about it easily being able to drop some guns for neuts is stupid as well. ANY ship can easily sacrifice bonused high slots to fit neuts, it doesn't make them good. The only reason it seems like a good idea on a Phoon is because doing so only wastes half a bonus, as each high slot only has 1 bonus attached to it compared to the vast majority of BS that would have 2.
The Phoon doesn't do anything remarkable. It doesn't out gank other gank BS with a SANE fit, it sure as **** doesn't outank them and it doesn't have magical Neutralizer capability despite what everyone seems to think. The ONLY thing it's got going for it is a decent sized dronebay.
N.B. Anyone that thinks the Domi only has one bonus needs to learn to fit it. It can do some scary **** with turets bolted on.
I agree completely with this. And it seem that most minmatari ships turn out like this except the ones specifically designed to go fast. They seem to contain the fault of not being particularly good at much. The minmatari pilots (I used to count myself as one) rejoice when they manage to find a fit that compares in one aspect so someone else's ship even though it's usually a comedy fit that lacks completely in every other aspect. As you put it usually it requires completely doing away with any form of Ewar. But these fits get defended because if it's crazy and will take 3 years of training to fly with even a close approximation of the result you can get out of any other ship after a year of training the pilots feel leet flying them.
Maybe I just don't like flying a gimped ship that can only outperform another ship in the class if I have 40mil skill points on my enemy.
